5 Ways With Recycled Timber

Taking one of our reclaimed Glulam Timber Beams as inspiration, we’ve compiled some inspirational projects you could try using a slab of recycled timber. The beam in the example above is 85mm thick, 530mm wide and 1.9m long – we can cut these to the length you require.

1. Reclaimed Timber Bar Top

Create a rustic bar top, outdoor bar leaner or servery top with a big chunky piece of recycled timber. If you already have a base to create a free-standing bar, a nice slab of timber would make a simple but attractive addition as the bar top.

Or, simply hang a large piece of timber from a wall or mount on top of an outdoor balustrade to make a floating bar leaner as shown in the example here.

2. Recycled Wood Bench Seat

This would be a simple project to get your teeth into if you’re new to woodwork. Take a nice slab of wood, attach some legs, or make some to match if you’re handy with the tools, and you’ll have made a versatile bench seat that can be used in so many ways.

This would be ideal if you love to entertain but you’re short on space, as a small bench won’t take up as much room as a stack of spare chairs.

3. DIY Timber Floating Desk

Another quick and uncomplicated DIY project to tackle is a timber desk. A large length of wood can be easily attached to a wall using brackets to create a floating desktop.

Add a couple of filing cabinets or shelving units below and you’ll have an instant office with plenty of storage.

4. Industrial Timber Coffee Table

In the example here, several pieces of timber have been sandwiched together, then bolted through with a couple of long bolts to hold everything in place.

You can achieve a similar look with a thick slab of timber cut to make the coffee table top in one piece. Attach some legs and you have a rustic-industrial style coffee table that’s sure to become a talking point.

5. Reclaimed Timber Bathroom Vanity

Another inventive use for a large slab of reclaimed timber is to make floating shelves, and here, two pieces have been used to create a stunning bathroom vanity. A simpler, single vanity top would be equally attractive, and a unique talking point for your bathroom.
