5 Man Cave ‘Brojects’ Using Reclaimed Timber
Every kiwi bloke deserves a place to hang out with his mates and tinker with his tools, so whether you like to escape to your shed, garage or a workshop, we have some great ideas for pimping your man cave using reclaimed timber. We’ve included ‘bro’jects for a all woodworking skill levels, so get reading, get inspired and have a go. Note: these projects aren’t just for the guys – there’s plenty of DIY-loving ladies out there so we hope to inspire everyone! Our ideas are also a perfect starting point for people wanting to create a unique and personal gift for the bloke or bloke-ess in their life, be it birthday, Christmas, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day or any day you think they deserve a hand-made present to show them how much you appreciate them!
1. Recycled Wood Man Cave Sign
Starting off with a very simple project, why not create a unique sign for your man cave using some recycled wood? Simply cut some pieces of timber to fit, paint or distress the wood for a rustic look, then paint your words on freehand, or use a stencil to guide you. Finish with some clear matt varnish, or leave as it is for a more natural look.
2. Reclaimed Wood Bottle Opener
These simple bottle openers made from reclaimed wood are a handy way to keep your man-space tidy, and should be pretty easy to create with a few timber offcuts. Cut some wood to fit, screw on a bottle opener and something to catch the bottle tops and you have a unique, hand-crafted beer opener for your man cave.
3. Reclaimed Timber Bar
No serious man cave is without a bar, so if your woodworking skills are up for the challenge, try building your own bar using reclaimed timber, or even an old door. Ensure you build a sturdy frame, add some shelves, then attach some wooden planks, tongue and grove or weatherboard to the front, and add a top to complete the bar.
4. DIY Timber Wall Hung Drop Bench
If your garage or shed has limited space, building a wall mounted workbench that drops down or folds away after use is a great idea. It also keeps your space organised and tidy as you’ll have to clear the bench to stow it away in between uses. Adding a peg board to the wall above the bench would also give you somewhere to store your tools while keeping them handy.
5. Tool Inspired Colour Palette
Finally, if you’re looking for colour inspiration for your man cave, this colour palette inspired by old fashioned hand tools could be just what you’re looking for. Dark, moody blue and grey are complimented by a warm earthy brown and soft taupe – use the taupe as a base and pick out 2 contrasting colours for features or accessories.
