Kara Burrowes’ discarded wood compositions

Our latest Wall of Fame legend is local artist and designer Kara Burrowes. Kara has become a regular visitor to Musgroves because she repurposes all sorts of building materials in her urban landscape artworks.

Kara is influenced by the urban landscape, the intricacies and mundane elements that others overlook. She’s interested in reclaiming materials and reusing to create something beautiful and unexpected from discarded materials and objects. Through a process of selection, cutting, reassembling and repetition, Kara creates beautiful compositions using discarded wood.

This began after the earthquakes when wood was plentiful with the demolition of houses. It felt therapeutic, purposeful and useful to be using wood at that time. Kara continues to enjoy this assemblage, no longer for the connection with the earthquakes but simply as another material she is drawn to.
