Reclaimed Ironbark Coffee Table

After months of searching for the perfect coffee table, Sam decided to make his own using reclaimed Australian Ironbark timber from the old Timaru wharf he sourced at Musgrove’s. He cut the wood into three sections, using two of them for the table and plate-bonding them together for extra strength. To create the circular top, he used a router to make several passes, being careful to preserve the unique character of the sea worm markings in the wood. To get a perfect circle, he sealed the gaps with plastic and silicone before filling them with multiple epoxy pours. He discovered that Temu sells two-part epoxy for a fraction of the cost of most local suppliers, which was a huge help! Sam built a router bed to flatten the surfaces and level the wood, then sanded it from 40-grit all the way up to 1200-grit before applying a coat of polyurethane. After another round of sanding, he added a final coat. The legs were designed using CAD and cut by Sami at All Metal Welding.
