Rimu table

We love hearing where our reclaimed materials end up, and this story from Nicola in Ireland is one of our all-time favourites.

Back in January 2023, Nicola and her family visited our yard with a very special project in mind. Her husband, originally from Christchurch, had a dream of bringing some New Zealand timber home to Ireland — specifically for a table they were making as part of the renovation of their thatched cottage in Wexford.

It was a hot evening, just before closing time, and as Nicola puts it, the whole family was feeling the heat. With two restless boys in tow and Nicola heavily pregnant, they were helped by Fred from our team, who patiently worked with them to choose just the right pieces of reclaimed rimu — timber that once formed the roof of a Christchurch hospital.

Now, two years later, Nicola has kept her promise to send us photos of the finished table. Sitting proudly in their Irish cottage, this table is more than just furniture — it’s a connection between homes, and a beautiful reminder of Christchurch halfway across the world.

A huge thanks to Nicola for sharing the story (and the photos!) and to Fred for making the visit a great experience. We’re thrilled to see our reclaimed timber enjoying its new life in Wexford.

If you enjoyed this project, please share it on your socials, thanks!
