T&G Timber: Enhancing Spaces with Timeless Style

18 Dec 2024 – Discover the wide variety of T&G timber in stock and explore its many popular applications, from feature floors to wall cladding, with ideas and examples to inspire your next project.

Pine

TG&V (Tongue and Groove & V-Joint) Panelling offers a unique look through its combination of tongue-and-groove joints and a V-joint. Tongue-and-groove is a classic joining system and ensures a seamless fit between panels, eliminating visible gaps. The V-joint adds depth and texture by creating a subtle shadow line between the panels. This design not only provides a sleek and contemporary appearance but also simplifies installation.

Our New Pine TG&V Paneling 135x12mm Clears, made from untreated timber and ready for painting or staining, is ideal for wall or ceiling cladding and features both beveled and flat sides – TG&V on one side and square dressed one side.

Many of our customers have been using the TG&V pine above for their tiny house ceilings and interior walls. It’s an excellent option due to its lightweight construction and adaptability. The untreated timber can be customised with paint or stain to match various aesthetics. The beveled and flat sides offer design flexibility, allowing for either a uniform or textured look. This paneling maximises small spaces while providing durability and the timeless aesthetic of warm timber.

Matai

Matai is highly regarded for its durability, strength, and attractive reddish-brown colour. It is ideal for a wide range of applications, including furniture, flooring, panelling, and exterior cladding, where its resilience and natural beauty add both looks and functionality.

Our Matai T&G Flooring 58x19mm, a premium New Zealand native timber, comes in various lengths up to 4m, ideal for a variety of applications including flooring, feature walls, headboards and tabletops!

Our wonderful customers have shared two clever ways they repurposed Matai floorboards to create vibrant pieces of furniture. Tim’s project involved transforming 30 linear meters of Matai tongue and groove flooring into a striking herringbone-patterned tabletop. Using 83mm boards for the main herringbone design and 58mm boards for the border (tongue removed), he glued them together using Titebond 3 onto a plywood sheet, which was then mounted on black-stained pine legs. The result was a stunning 2.4 by 1.1-meter table, showcasing both craftsmanship and creativity. Meanwhile, Nicole & Reagan used Matai floorboards to make a beautiful headboard for their guest room. A bit of sanding and a coat of Danish oil were all it took to bring out the natural beauty of the wood, creating a warm and inviting focal point for their space.

Beech

New Zealand beech is highly regarded for its exceptional strength, fine grain, and warm, natural tones, making it an ideal choice for durable and visually appealing flooring. Its versatility also lends itself to high-quality cabinetry and elegant furniture, showcasing its ability to combine functionality with timeless aesthetics.

Our 85 x 21mm Tongue and Groove recycled Beech flooring, offers a sustainable choice with a warm, natural aesthetic, ideal for adding character and durability to any space.

Rimu

Rimu is celebrated for its rich, reddish-brown heartwood and fine, even grain. Historically, it has been widely used in furniture making, cabinetry, and traditional joinery due to its beauty and workability. Its durability and striking appearance make it particularly well-suited for flooring, where its warm tones and natural resilience add both charm and longevity to interior spaces.

Vitex

Vitex timber, a tropical hardwood from the Solomon Islands, is prized for its durability, attractive creamy to walnut brown tones, and resistance to wear. It is ideal for applications such as interior and exterior panelling, decking, screening, boat-building and other high-traffic or decorative uses (such as feature walls) where strength and aesthetic appeal are essential.

Our new Vitex TG&V 90x9mm, with good long lengths, is popular among Musgroves customers for wall panelling and for feature walls in new homes.

Vitex timber is ideal for decks due to its natural durability, smooth finish, and resistance to weathering.

Purple Heart

Purple Heart timber, originating from Central and South America, is a unique and striking hardwood species, known for its vibrant purple hue and exceptional durability. When used as TG&V panelling, its pronounced V-groove enhances the visual texture, making it ideal for applications like counter fronts, bedroom feature walls, and entryways, with the added advantage of being suitable for external entranceways due to its hardwood resilience.

Our new Purple Heart TG&V 130x12mm is a highly durable, hard-wearing timber with a distinctive colour, available in a small batch of long lengths ranging from 5 to 6 meters.

Purple Heart timber is ideal for a wide range of woodworking and furniture applications, where its rich, vibrant colour provides a striking contrast to lighter woods like oak or maple. This makes it perfect for projects such as table tops:

Kahikatea / White Pine

Kahikatea (White Pine) is a lightweight, fine-grained timber valued for its pale colour, workability, and resistance to warping. Its light colour brings a sense of space and brightness to interiors, making it an excellent choice for flooring, benchtops, and doors (e.g. barn doors), while its smooth finish and consistent texture make it equally suited for cabinetry and detailed woodworking projects.
